2010 Un-Scripted: unscripted Cast

Alan Goy

Alan Goy is an Improvisor, actor, director, playwright, and novelist. Alan's play, Il Lago, was performed in Bologna, Italy in May 2005, and his novel The Deadworks was a 2008 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award Semi-Finalist. He’s been a member of the Un-Scripted Theater Company ensemble since 2003 and directed Un-Scripted: unscripted last season. He also directed Impact Briefs: Puberty for Impact Theatre in May 2009. For more on Alan, check out www.experimentfarm.com.

Alan loves blood oranges, a lot. Mmm… blood oranges. Go buy some while they’re still in season.

Merrill Gruver

Merrill Gruver is an actress and Improvisor best known as the voice of Karen Carpenter in Todd Haynes' Superstar.  More recently, she appeared in Erika Chong Shuch's Love Everywhere and the Hodgearts film Reticulum. Merrill is a graduate of BATS Improv and performed regularly with The Sunday Players. She was a guest performer in Un-Scripted's last shows, Shakespeare: The Musical and Let it Snow! Merrill teaches drama at The Peninsula School.

Merrill didn't submit a sentence about something she likes, so Clay's going to say that she likes Jello pudding pops with a passion that borders on zealousy.

Melissa Holman is thrilled to be performing with Un-Scripted Theater for the first time! She recently moved back to San Francisco from Boston, where she was a cast member, director, and writer at ImprovBoston and the Tribe Theater. She has trained at the Upright Citizens Brigade, ACT, ImprovBoston, and with Armando Diaz, and has also appeared in more than 20 plays and short films in San Francisco, Boston, and New York.

When she was 13, Melissa wore a full-length Plexiglas bagel costume to promote her uncle’s bakery. Believe it or not, it was voluntary.

Mandy Khoshnevisan (Assistant Director) has been teaching and performing Improv since 1996. As a Working Artist, Mandy directs productions at Bay Area schools; teaches voice, dance, and improv; writes and performs original music for the theater; and works as a puppeteer on the up-and-coming TV-show The Magic Paint Box. For Un-Scripted she most recently directed The Great Puppet Bollywood Extravaganza and Let It Snow! Mandy is a full-time member of the Un-Scripted Theater Company.

Mandy is a huge fan of the following: tadpoles, talking to small children, and learning to do new things.

Merrill Gruver

David Madison watched improv jealously from afar before taking the plunge in 2004.  He directed a weekly improv jam for many years, performed with the BATS main company and recently played a villain in a Rafe Chase Western, a villain so dastardly that much of the audience ran into the street crying and shaking in fear. David is also an internationally renowned dance teacher, as well as Time Magazine's Person Of The Year in 2006.

David is totally in love with Perl.  It rules with an iron fist.

Alyssa Harvey

Clay Robeson (producer) has been Improvising for over ten years, and feels he’s just scratching the surface of what’s possible. When not making things up, you can find him doing sketch comedy with MoronLife.com, taking photographs that wind up on Photography.ClayRobeson.net, doing voices for a podcast audio drama at AngelBetweenTheLines.com or working on a top secret puppet sci-fi web series that may not be so top secret now that it’s been published in a bio.

Clay loves to create things, especially when puppets are involved.

Karen Hirst

Lyn Travis began taking improv classes ten-ish years ago and was hooked! Improv became an integral part of her professional leadership and communications work before she shifted into performance and teaching. Lyn was a Sunday Player at BATS and now belongs to two other performance ensembles: Marinprov and Out of Line.  She studied at the Frankfurt English Theatre, ACT, and the Shelton Theater and has done some stage, commercial and film work.

Little known fact that Lyn was actually born in a completely un-hip state that makes the news once a decade at best, and her favorite part of laundry is pulling the lint off the dryer filter.

Scott Keck

Christian Utzman (Director) has been performing improvisational theater for more than 13 years in over a dozen groups. Over the past seven years he has been working full time with the Un-Scripted Theater Company as a founding member, improv actor, show director, and full time staff member. Currently he is teaching the improv class Improvising the Un-Scripted Way and works as both a cast member and as the director for Un-Scripted: unscripted.

Christian likes that Clay wrote Merrill's sentence about what she likes, and yet, Merrill doesn't know what a pudding pop is.  Do they even make pudding pops anymore?
